Home is where the heart is. It’s also where you feel most comfortable. So when it comes to your living space, it’s important to ensure it reflects your personality.

Your home should uplift you, make you feel relaxed and happy, and help you prepare for the day and unwind at the end of it.

Home is where the heart is. It’s also where you feel most comfortable. So when it comes to your living space, it’s important to ensure it reflects your personality. Your home should uplift you, make you feel relaxed and happy, and help you prepare for the day and unwind at the end of it. It’s also vital that your home celebrates your individuality and who you are as a person. Here are seven ways you can add personality to your home.

1. USE YOUR FURNITURE

Furniture is typically a reflection of your style and personality. But it also needs to be practical and comfortable to use. When you choose your furniture, whether it is for the living room, the dining room or the bedroom, ensure it suits you while at the same time serving it’s purpose. For example, when choosing a couch, don’t just go for the look of it. Remember, you need to be able to use it as well, and it’s likely you’ll have to use it in a number of different ways – lying down or even sharing it with two or more people. A great way to bring personality into your home using furniture is by choosing the right colours. If you like bright and bold, choose a bright fabric or go for neutral if you’re more into the creams and beiges. You can also use unique furniture pieces to showcase your style, whether it’s antique, modern, contemporary or comfortable, there’s furniture options for everyone.

2. TAKE CUES FROM YOUR CULTURE

Everyone has a story to tell and your home should help you tell it. Incorporating aspects of your culture into your home not only helps shape and mould your identity but it also helps share your culture with visitors. You can use your culture in decorating or line your kitchen cupboards with cookbooks inspired by your ethnicity. Using family photos of generations past and present will also help bring a bit of history into your home and give you a sense of place. If you have some family heirlooms, pop them around the place as well. This may include cushions, throws or even antique furniture.

3. USE COLOUR

If you’re not into bright and colourful, don’t despair. Using colour just means change it up a bit. Using different colour palettes ensures you show your personality while also creating a mood. For example, blue hues are considered calming so are great for a bedroom, while red is generally considered emotionally intense. You can either use big accents of colour, for example, a couch, or you can insert small pops of it, using throws and cushions. Using textiles and accessories seems to be the easiest way to bring some different colours into your home. And remember, this can include the artwork. Other ways you can inject some colour into your home include using wallpaper or a feature wall or even painting the doors a different colour. Remember, the changes don’t have to be huge, they just have to reflect who you are.

4. LIGHT IT UP

You’d be amazed how different a light fitting can make a room feel. And there are plenty of options out there to choose one that best suits you. Think chandeliers, track lights or pendant lights. All of these will say something different and they’re highly personal selections. Even the style of pendant light will say a lot about you, whether it’s modern or vintage, chrome or brass. Also, consider what’s on your tables and floor when it comes to lighting. You can use floor or table lamps, or even wall sconces to bring some of your personality into the space as well.

5. USE GREENERY

Who says nature has to stay outdoors? Plants and flowers can bring new life into a space. Find some indoor plants that don’t need a lot of sunlight and place them around your home. If you’re into flowers, just making sure you have a couple of fresh bunches around the place will instantly showcase your personality, and make you feel delightfully happy when you step foot into the room. Alternatively, grow your own! Use your window sills to grow some flowers or plants in pots and boxes.

6. WINDOW DRESSINGS

Your windows are another fantastic place to inject a bit of personality into your home. Of course, there are only so many things you can use to block out the light, but that doesn’t mean you need to go traditional. Use colours, fabrics and patterns that reflect who you are and what makes you happy. Take your cues from the room around the window so it all works together.

7. ARTWORK

Artwork is a highly personal element of your home so no matter what you choose, it’s going to reflect who you are. And remember, artwork doesn’t necessarily mean famous artists or individual pieces, it can also be as simple as a photograph you’ve taken or some family portraits. Create a photo wall with your favourite photos of people and places, purchase some key pieces you love or even create your own works of art to hang around the rooms.

Hello!

Gemmill Homes has recently changed its name to Endeavour Homes!!!

We are excited with the new name Endeavour Homes, business has been great for our customers and us last year, despite all the craziness of 2020.

Here are some wins:

1. Every one of our display homes won MBA awards in their categories.
